Fishers, IN – The City of Fishers Planning & Zoning Department and Fishers Elementary School will host the Box City urban planning workshop for third grade students on Thursday, March 31 at the Fishers Maker Playground at Hub & Spoke (8100 E. 106th Street).
With support from the City’s Planning & Zoning team, students will learn how to be innovative city planners in the two-day workshop as they create a smart, vibrant and entrepreneurial community.
The first day of the workshop consists of a mock City Council meeting where students will vote on a new development project and explore how stakeholders influence land use decisions. The second day of the workshop features the permitting and construction process, where students will create a 3D cardboard model of a Fishers neighborhood at the Fishers Maker Playground.
The Box City curriculum comes from the Center for Understanding the Built Environment (CUBE), whose mission is to bring together educators with community partners to effect change that will lead to a quality built and natural environment. The City previously hosted this program in 2016 with Fishers Elementary School.
